At least 20 people, including firefighters, were injured in a massive fire that broke out on the ground floor of Tung High Knit and Sweater Factory in Giranpur's Jirani yesterday morning.
Garment workers said a fire broke out on the ground floor of a seven-storey building around 2.30am and some workers spread to the first and second floors while working there.
The dye department, chemical and yarn warehouses are located on the ground floor of the building, they added. Based on the information, 10 fire brigades from Gazipur Sadar, Tongi, Savar EPZ and Mirpur reached the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of workers after four and a half hours of costly efforts. Ratan Kumar Sarkar, Nurul Islam and Payel Hossain and garment workers Badsha Mia, Atiqul Islam, Sohail Mia, Md. Mostafa, Kamal Hossain, Saiful Islam and Aslam.
They were admitted to local hospitals and clinics.
Those who live in the house adjacent to the factory were seen leaving the Thai house because of the hustle and bustle emanating from the burning factory.
Abdur Rashid, deputy director of fire service and civil defense at the fire department, said the fire could have started from a house next to a garment factory warehouse.

তাদের স্থানীয় হাসপাতাল ও ক্লিনিকে ভর্তি করা হয়েছিল।
কারখানা সংলগ্ন বাড়িতে যারা বাস করেন তাদের জ্বলন্ত কারখানা থেকে ফুটে উঠছিল হুগসোমকের কারণে থায়ার বাড়ি ছেড়ে যেতে দেখা গেছে।
ঢকা বিভাগের ফায়ার সার্ভিস ও সিভিল ডিফেন্সের উপপরিচালক আবদুর রশিদ বলেছেন, পোশাক কারখানার গুদামের পাশের একটি ঘর থেকে আগুনের সূত্রপাত হতে পারে।
