                                                     Definition Of Nouns

Name of anything like person, animal, place , thing, abstract, idea, state or quality is called noun.(যে কোন ব্যক্তি, প্রাণী, বস্তু, ভাব, কাজ, অবস্থান, দোষ-গুণ  ইত্যাদির নামকে Noun বলে ।

Example:

Maria, Tamim, Taskin, Dhaka, Kushtia, Book, Teacher, Water, Honesty, Happiness, Family, Sleep

In Sentence: (Blold words are noun)

* A boy is coming towards us.

* Tamim is reading in class two.

* Education is the backbone of a nation.

* Poverty is curse.

* Taskin is one of the best boys in the class.

 Classification of nouns :

প্রথম দৃষ্টি কোণ থেকে Noun কে প্রধানত দুই ভাগে ভাগ করা যায় ঃ

A. Concrete Noun

B. Abstract Noun

Concrete Noun কে আবার  চার ভাগে ভাগ করা যায় ঃ

1. Proper Noun

2. Common Noun

3. Collective Noun

4. Material Noun

                                                        Proper Noun

A proper noun is the name of a particular person, thing, place, or any other thing. ( যে Concrete Noun কোন একটি নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, স্থান প্রভৃতির নাম বুঝায় তাকে Proper Noun বলে ।)

Example:

Name of persons : Tamim, Pori, Taskin, Tahmid etc.

Name of things : Quran, Bible, Moon, Titanic, Friday etc.

Name of place :  Kushtia, Haripur, America, Dhaka Africa, Australia etc.

Some Important Notes :

1. Proper Noun এর প্রথম অক্ষর সব সময় capital letter এ হয় । যেমন- Quran, Gita, Tamim, Nazrul etc. আবার God, Lord, Bible ইত্যাদি  proper noun যখন proper noun হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয় না তখন তাদের প্রথম অক্ষর হয় small letter. 

2. Earth, Sun, Moon - ইত্যাদি কেবল একটি ব’লে এদের আগে The বসে এবং এদের নামের প্রথমে capital letter না ব্যবহার করলেও চলে ।

                                                    Common Noun

A common noun is one which is common to each member of a class of persons or things. ( যে noun কোন এক শ্রেণীর ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর প্রত্যেকের সাধারণ নাম বুঝায় Common Noun তাকে বলে ।

Example :

Boy->>>>>>               Tamim, Taskin, Tahsin, Tahmid

Dress->>>>>               Lungi, Shari, Shirt

                                Collective Noun

Defination : A collective noun is the name of a group or collection of persons or things of the same kind thought of as one undivided whole. (যে Noun একজাতীয় ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু ইত্যাদি অবিভক্ত সমষ্টিকে বুঝায় তাকে Collective Noun বলে ।

Folk- ঝাক, Band-দল, Cavalry-অশ্বারোহী  সৈন্যদল, Gang-দল, Team-দল, Party-দল, Crowd- জনতা
Infanty-পদাতিক সৈন্যদল, Fleet- রণতরী  শ্রেণী, Navy- নৌ সেনা দল, Group-দল
Audience-শ্রোতাবর্গ, committee- সভাসদবর্গ

Rule -1 : Collective noun যদি কোন sentence এর subject রুপে ব্যবহৃত হয় তাহলে ঐ subject এর verb টি singular হয়; অর্থাৎ Verb টির সাথে S/es যুক্ত হয় ।

যেমন-
এক ঝাক পাখি উড়ছে ঃ A flock of birds is flying.( এখানে are ব্যবহৃত না হয়ে is ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে ।)

এক দল ডাকাত এখানে এসেছে ঃ A gang of robbers has come here.
এক দল খেলোয়ার য়ায়  ঃ A team of players goes.

Extra example : 

The jury is the same opinion.
A flock of birds is flying.
A crowd of people is making a noise.
The class has sixty students.

Rule -2 : Collective noun যদি কখন ও সমষ্টিকে না বুঝিয়ে পৃথক পৃথকভাবে প্রতিটি বস্তু বা ব্যক্তিকে বুঝায় তাহলে এ ক্ষেত্রে Plural verb ব্যবহৃত হয় ।

Example :
1. The class are (NOT is) divided into two divisions.
2. The jury are divided in their opinion.
3.The audience are divided in various groups.


                               Material Noun

Definition : A material noun is a name which indicates a matter or substance as a mass and does not indicate any part or number of it. (যে noun কোন পদার্থের সমুদয় অংশকে  একক ভাবে বুঝায় এবং তার অন্তর্গত কোন খন্ড বা অংশকে বুঝায় না তাকে Material Noun বলে ।


Example : 
Water, gold, iron, milk, salt, tea, paper, soil.

Note : Material noun এর পরে verb singular হয় ।

Example : Water is essential for our life.
                 Gold is precious metal.


                                     B. Abstract Noun

Definition : Abstract noun is that noun which indicates some abstract idea or quality which has no physical existence and can not be touched, smelt, heard, or perceived through the sense; but can only be imagined. (Abstract noun হল সেই  noun যা কোন অবস্তুগত ধারণা বা গুণকে নির্দেশ করে; যার বাহ্যিক অস্তিত্ব নেই এবং যা ছোয়া যায় না;  গন্ধ দ্বারা বোঝা যায় না; কিন্তু শুধু কল্পনা দ্বারা বোঝা যায় ।

Example : honesty (সততা), boyhood (বাল্যকাল), justice (ন্যায়), heroism (বীরত্ব
