The Pronoun

What is a pronoun ?
A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun equivalent. (Pronoun হলো এমন একটি শব্দ যা Noun  এর পরিবর্তে বসে ।

Types Of Pronouns

1. Personal               →→→Example : I, you, they, we, he, she etc.
2. Interrogative       →→→Example : Who ? What ? Which ?  When ? Where ? etc.
3. Distributive         →→→Example : each, neither, either etc.
4. Demonstrative     →→→Example : this, such, that etc.
5. Relative            →→→→Example : who, what, which, that etc.
6. Reciprocal           →→→Example : each other, one another etc.
7. Reflexive             →→→ Example : myself, himself, herself, yourself, ourselves etc.
8. Indefinite         →→→→Example : one, any, some etc.


                                                     Personal Pronouns

A personal pronoun is used instead of a person. Such as I, you, he, she, we, they, and who.

**When a personal pronoun is the subject of a verb, it is called subjective pronoun.


কােন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর নামের পরিবর্তে যে ব্যবহৃত হয় তাকে বলে । যেমন ঃ

1. I can do it.
2. We are going to school.
3. They are students.

There are three types of Personal Pronoun.

1. Personal pronoun of the first person.
Example : I, we, my, our, us, ours, etc.

2. Personal pronoun of the second person.
Example : you, your, yours, thou, thine, thee etc.

3. Personal pronoun of the third person.
Example : he, she, they, his, her, them


                                                   Interrogative Pronouns

An interrogative pronoun is used to ask question. যে pronoun দ্বারা কোন প্রশ্ন করা হয় তাকে interrogative pronoun বলে ।


Example : 

1. Who are you ? (nominative )
2. Whom do you want ? ( objective )
3. Whose pen is this ? ( possessive)

Uses of who, which, what as subject of a sentence.
Example :

Who is she ? (singular )
Who are they ? (plural )

 As a object :

Who (Whom) do you want ?
Who (whom) Whom are you looking ?


                                                      Demonstrative Pronouns

Definition : Words such as this, that, these, those, such, so, used instead of noun to point to it or them are called demonstrative pronouns.


Example : 
This                           these
That                           those


                                                       Relative Pronouns

Definition : The relative pronoun is that pronoun which refers to some noun or pronoun previously mentioned and at the same time joins two sentences.



Example : Who, Which, That, What, But, As are used relative pronoun in the sentence.

A. I know the man.
B. He lost his bag.

Now, we join the two sentences by using relative pronoun.

I know the man who lost his bag.

A. I have lost the pen.
B. You gave me the pen.

** I have lost the pen that you gave me.




                                 Reciprocal Pronoun

A reciprocal pronoun refers the relations between two ore more persons or things. Each other and one another are reciprocal pronouns.



We use Reciprocal Pronouns when there are two or more persons or things doing the same thing.

Example : 

Tamim and Tahmina like each other.
Why don't believe each other ?
They do not tolerate each other.
We should helh one another.


                                     Reflexive Pronoun

Reflexive Pronoun refers back to the subject in the sentence. They are myself, himself, herself, ourselves, themselves, yourselves, and itself.



Example : 

I ask myself when I take a decision.
He spoke to himself.
We learn about ourselves everyday.


                                 Indefinite Pronoun

Indefinite Pronoun refers to an indefinite or non specific person or thing. Indefinite Pronouns are any, anything, some, someone, somebody, everybody, everything, everyone, nobody, none, one, several, some, few, many and each.


Example : 
All people gathered here for the same purpose.
Does anyone know anything about the matter ?
Anybody can play the game easily.
None but the brave deserves the fair.
Each must do his best.
One must do one's duty.
